Start with the tax problem, not the postcode
Tell us whether you need a return prepared, a calculation checked, an overdue year resolved or help understanding an HMRC letter. Those are different engagements. The first discussion identifies the taxpayer, the period and the immediate deadline before recommending the appropriate route.
Salary and dividends, rental profits, self-employment, capital gains and overseas income can interact, but a company’s tax return is separate from its director’s personal return. We distinguish these responsibilities so an accounts purchase is not mistaken for complete personal tax coverage.
Self Assessment: what information matters
Prepare details of employment and pensions, self-employment records, rents, interest, dividends, disposals and overseas income where relevant. P60s, P11Ds, rental statements and earlier returns help establish the position, but complete records are more important than a particular spreadsheet format.
For the 2025/26 tax year, the normal online Self Assessment filing deadline is 31 January 2027; a paper return normally falls due on 31 October 2026. Registration, payments on account and balancing payments have their own rules. A return submitted on time does not itself settle the tax due.
Making Tax Digital for Income Tax in 2026
From 6 April 2026, qualifying sole traders and landlords with more than £50,000 qualifying gross income must use Making Tax Digital for Income Tax, subject to the applicable rules and exemptions. Qualifying income is not simply taxable profit: it generally combines gross self-employment and property income.
The published rollout extends to more than £30,000 from April 2027 and more than £20,000 from April 2028. Confirm your starting date, income reference year and any exemption using HMRC’s guidance. Digital records and quarterly updates do not replace checking the annual tax position.
Company tax and director tax stay separate
A company’s CT600 reports taxable company profits; the director’s Self Assessment deals with their own income and gains. Paying salary, declaring dividends or borrowing from the company can create different consequences. Review the underlying records before choosing a treatment.
If an annual accounts service is needed, use the company accounts route. If you need a director return with income outside the company, say so: the included package director return is limited to salary and dividends from the same company. Specialist calculations are quoted before work starts.
HMRC letters and overdue returns
Identify the tax, period, response date and what HMRC is asking for. An enquiry, information notice or disclosure needs a separate assessment from ordinary return preparation. Use our HMRC investigations service where appropriate; a routine compliance package is not an unlimited defence engagement.
Do not assume a penalty can be cancelled or a return can be omitted because no tax is due. We establish the filing requirement, available records and steps needed, without guaranteeing an appeal outcome. If the deadline is close, tell us before ordering.
Local tax help and a clear fee
Appointments are available at our published Morden office, with phone and online discussions for clients elsewhere in South London and the UK. A near-me search does not require you to appoint the geographically closest adviser, and this page does not calculate distance.
The initial consultation clarifies the service. Return preparation, detailed computations, written advice and dispute work are chargeable only under the agreed scope. Company monthly prices are not quoted as the price of an individual tax return; choose the relevant online filing product or request a tailored quote.
