How much do limited company accounts cost?
Our prices depend on your company's size and activity, starting from £149 + VAT for dormant company accounts, £549 + VAT for micro-entity accounts with a CT600, and £749 + VAT for small company accounts with a CT600. If you have an overdue year to catch up on, each additional overdue year is £549 + VAT.
These prices assume reasonably straightforward, up-to-date digital records for a single accounting period. Any Companies House fee shown is charged at today's rate; if Companies House changes it, we charge the new fee separately. We are an independent firm of Chartered Accountants, not Companies House or HMRC.
Limited company accounts cost comparison
The table below compares preparing accounts yourself, using our fixed prices, and a typical high-street accountant, where fees are usually quoted individually rather than published, so we haven't invented a figure for that column.
What determines whether I need micro-entity or small company accounts?
From 6 April 2025, a company generally qualifies as a micro-entity if its turnover is £1 million or less, alongside meeting the other size thresholds for balance sheet total and employee numbers. Micro-entity accounts are the simplest format, with small company accounts required once a company is too large to qualify as micro but still meets the small company thresholds.
We assess which category your company falls into as part of preparing your accounts, so you're not paying for a more complex filing than your company actually needs.
- Dormant: no significant accounting transactions in the period
- Micro-entity: turnover £1 million or less (from 6 April 2025), plus other size limits
- Small company: larger than micro but within the small company thresholds
When would I need a bespoke quote instead of a fixed price?
Our published prices are for straightforward cases with digital records covering a single accounting period. If your company keeps paper records that need converting to digital format, covers several accounting periods at once, has an unusually high volume of transactions, or needs more complex accounting treatment such as multiple income streams or significant adjustments, we'll provide a bespoke quote once we understand the scope of the work.
We always confirm a quote before starting work, so there are no surprises once the accounts are underway.
What happens if my accounts are overdue?
If your accounts are already overdue, Companies House penalties apply on a sliding scale for private companies: up to £150 for up to 1 month late, £375 for 1–3 months, £750 for 3–6 months, and £1,500 for more than 6 months, doubling if your accounts were also filed late the previous year. The sooner overdue accounts are filed, the sooner the penalty position is fixed and no further increase applies.
We charge £549 + VAT for each additional overdue year beyond your first filing, reflecting the extra work involved in catching up more than one period at once.
Are there ways to reduce the cost of preparing accounts?
Keeping clean, up-to-date digital bookkeeping records throughout the year, rather than handing over a shoebox of paper receipts at year end, is the single biggest factor in keeping accounts preparation straightforward and within our standard fixed prices. Filing your confirmation statement, VAT returns and payroll on time also avoids the extra work involved in reconstructing a company's position retrospectively.
