What the service covers

Director Self Assessment and personal tax planning joined up with the company position, not treated separately.

• Self Assessment for directors and shareholders

• Salary, dividend and pension extraction modelling

• Capital gains, share sales and BADR planning

• Coordination with the company's tax position

The rules that shape this work

The dividend allowance is £500 and dividend rates are 10.75%, 35.75% and 39.35%. The personal allowance tapers away between £100,000 and £125,140 of income, creating an effective 60% band that pension contributions or timing can often address.

Self Assessment returns are due by 31 January after the tax year, with payments on account on 31 January and 31 July. Planning the extraction before the tax year ends is what changes the outcome; filing in January only reports it.

Thresholds, rates and deadlines quoted here reflect the 2026/27 UK position. Check current GOV.UK guidance, or ask us, before you rely on them for your own company.

How we run it

We start by looking at the last filed accounts, your current records and your filing dates, then confirm a fixed scope and fee in writing.

Once the work is live you get reminders ahead of each deadline, a named person to ask questions, and a plain-English summary when the figures are ready, not a PDF with no explanation.

Frequently asked

Personal tax returns & planning: questions directors ask

What is the best salary and dividend split?

It depends on your other income, whether Employment Allowance is available and what the company can afford. We model it annually rather than repeating a rule of thumb.

Do you handle tax on selling my company?

Yes, including Business Asset Disposal Relief planning and the timing of a share sale, this is work to start well before a deal, not after.

What records are needed for personal tax returns & planning?

Keep bank statements, sales and platform reports, purchase invoices, payroll records, VAT workings, finance agreements and Companies House correspondence. We confirm the exact list at onboarding and identify gaps before a filing deadline becomes urgent.

How much does help with personal tax returns & planning cost?

The fee depends on transaction volume, record quality, VAT and payroll requirements, historic catch-up and the level of reporting needed. We agree a fixed scope and price before technical work starts, with published packages available on our fees page.

Can you take over personal tax returns & planning from another accountant?

Yes. We request professional clearance, collect the prior records and authorities, check the next Companies House and HMRC deadlines, and give you one clear handover list. The process is normally completed remotely.

Can personal tax returns & planning be handled online?

Yes. We work through secure cloud records, scheduled reviews and digital approvals, while keeping a named team available by phone, video call and email. Clients can also visit our Morden office by appointment.

Which accounting software works best for personal tax returns & planning?

We regularly work with Xero, QuickBooks, FreeAgent, Sage and connected sales or expense apps. The right setup depends on transaction volume, integrations and the reports you need, not simply the software brand.

What tax deadlines matter for personal tax returns & planning?

The relevant calendar may include annual accounts, Corporation Tax payment and return dates, confirmation statements, VAT returns, payroll submissions and Self Assessment. We map the dates from your company year end and registrations.

Can I get free basic tax advice about personal tax returns & planning?

Yes. You can ask a straightforward initial question without charge. Calculations, filings, written advice, planning and HMRC correspondence are scoped and quoted before work begins.
