What the service covers

Free basic tax advice* for UK founders and limited company directors, ask the question first, and pay only if the work that follows is technical.

• A free conversation about your company's tax position

• Plain answers on salary and dividends, VAT, R&D and reliefs

• A view on whether a limited company is right for you yet

Filing deadlines and what happens if you have missed them

The rules that shape this work

Basic tax advice is free*. Technical work, computations, tax planning, filings, HMRC correspondence, R&D claims, SEIS/EIS submissions, share schemes and written advice you can rely on, is chargeable and always quoted before it starts.

Free guidance is general and based on what you tell us. It is not a substitute for advice on your specific circumstances once real money, a filing position or an HMRC dispute is involved.

HMRC penalties are cheaper to avoid than to argue with. Late filing of a company tax return starts at £100 and escalates; late Companies House accounts start at £150 and rise to £1,500. If a deadline has passed, the conversation is worth having today rather than next month.

Thresholds, rates and deadlines quoted here reflect the 2026/27 UK position. Check current GOV.UK guidance, or ask us, before you rely on them for your own company.

How we run it

We start by looking at the last filed accounts, your current records and your filing dates, then confirm a fixed scope and fee in writing.

Once the work is live you get reminders ahead of each deadline, a named person to ask questions, and a plain-English summary when the figures are ready, not a PDF with no explanation.

What Our Clients Say

Rated 4.9 out of 5From 302 Google reviews
Accotax have been our accountants for many years now. We maintained them because of their professionalism. In the last couple of years I have been working with Imran, who has been very professional and helpful in guiding us through the whole process, explaining and clarifying every aspect of it. Very prompt in responding to questions and patient with us even when we seem to be slow.
Mansur Liman · Long-standing company client
We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we're really glad we did. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing, professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.
Mael Leboucher · Year end accounts & bookkeeping
I've been working with Accotax since January 2024, and their support has grown alongside my business needs. My personal allocated manager, Umer, provides tailored services for both of my companies, adapting as I expand and ensuring everything runs smoothly. They are responsive, knowledgeable, and always clear in their communication. Their help with accounts, VAT, payrolls, pensions and compliance gives me real confidence and peace of mind.

Frequently asked

Free tax advice for startups*: questions directors ask

Is the tax advice really free?

Basic advice on your question is free*, we would rather you asked than guessed. Anything technical, anything filed, and anything you need in writing to rely on is chargeable and quoted first.

Do I have to become a client?

No. Plenty of the conversations we have end with 'you do not need us yet', and that is a fine outcome.

What counts as technical work?

Tax computations, planning work, returns and filings, HMRC enquiries and correspondence, R&D and SEIS/EIS claims, share scheme work, and formal written advice.

How do I ask a question?

Book a free consultation and tell us the situation. We will tell you straight away whether it is a five-minute answer or a piece of work that needs quoting.

What records are needed for free tax advice for startups*?

Keep bank statements, sales and platform reports, purchase invoices, payroll records, VAT workings, finance agreements and Companies House correspondence. We confirm the exact list at onboarding and identify gaps before a filing deadline becomes urgent.

How much does help with free tax advice for startups* cost?

The fee depends on transaction volume, record quality, VAT and payroll requirements, historic catch-up and the level of reporting needed. We agree a fixed scope and price before technical work starts, with published packages available on our fees page.

Can you take over free tax advice for startups* from another accountant?

Yes. We request professional clearance, collect the prior records and authorities, check the next Companies House and HMRC deadlines, and give you one clear handover list. The process is normally completed remotely.

Can free tax advice for startups* be handled online?

Yes. We work through secure cloud records, scheduled reviews and digital approvals, while keeping a named team available by phone, video call and email. Clients can also visit our Morden office by appointment.

Which accounting software works best for free tax advice for startups*?

We regularly work with Xero, QuickBooks, FreeAgent, Sage and connected sales or expense apps. The right setup depends on transaction volume, integrations and the reports you need, not simply the software brand.

What tax deadlines matter for free tax advice for startups*?

The relevant calendar may include annual accounts, Corporation Tax payment and return dates, confirmation statements, VAT returns, payroll submissions and Self Assessment. We map the dates from your company year end and registrations.
