Short answer

Yes. Every UK company must have a registered office in the UK, and it must be an appropriate address where documents are received and delivery can be acknowledged. Your own residential address abroad cannot be the registered office.

Appropriate address and what is published

Since ECCTA, a registered office cannot be a PO box and must be an address where post reaches someone acting for the company. Companies House can replace a non-compliant address with a default one and begin strike off proceedings.

The registered office is public. Directors' and PSCs' service addresses are also public, while residential addresses held on the register are not published where a separate service address is given.

Using a provider

Most non-resident directors use an accountant or formation agent for the registered office and a service address. Choose one that actually opens, scans and forwards post, because HMRC and Companies House correspondence, including the corporation tax UTR, arrives by letter.

We provide a registered office and service address from 12 London Road, Morden, alongside the accounts and tax work, so official post does not sit unopened in another country.

Before you act

Rates, thresholds and deadlines quoted here reflect the 2026/27 UK position and current Companies House and HMRC guidance. Check GOV.UK, or ask us, before relying on them for your own company.
