What you must have
The issues that actually matter
Yes. UK company law imposes no residence or nationality requirement on directors. You need at least one director aged 16 or over, a UK registered office address, and completed identity verification at Companies House.
A UK registered office that is an appropriate address able to receive and acknowledge post, a registered email address, and identity verification for every director and person with significant control, done directly with Companies House or through an Authorised Corporate Service Provider.
Your residential address is given to Companies House but is not published if you provide a separate service address. Many overseas directors use their accountant's address for both the registered office and their service address.
Three things decide whether a UK company works for a non-resident owner: where the company is tax resident, whether a bank will open an account, and whether the company creates a permanent establishment in your home country. None of them are Companies House questions.
A UK company managed entirely from abroad may be treated as tax resident in that country as well as the UK under central management and control, so the same profit can be within two tax systems before treaty relief.
Rates, thresholds and deadlines quoted here reflect the 2026/27 UK position and current Companies House and HMRC guidance. Check GOV.UK, or ask us, before relying on them for your own company.
