Dormant accounts filing itself carries no Companies House fee. From 1 February 2026, the confirmation statement costs £50 online or £110 on paper, payable once per twelve-month payment period regardless of how many statements you file during that period. These fees may change again.
These are statutory fees charged at cost, with no VAT added, whoever files them. An accountant filing on your behalf passes the fee through unchanged and charges separately for the preparation work.
Because dormant accounts are a simple balance sheet with no trading transactions to reconcile, the accountancy element is minimal compared with active company packages starting at £45.83 plus VAT a month.
The main risk to cost is losing dormancy accidentally, for example through a stray bank charge, which turns a simple dormant filing into full accounts. Closing or emptying the bank account is the most reliable way to guarantee dormancy for the year.
