A private limited company normally has nine months from its accounting reference date to file accounts with Companies House. A first set of accounts is due 21 months after incorporation. Late filing triggers an automatic penalty starting at £150 and rising to £1,500 the longer accounts are outstanding, and it doubles if you file late two years running.
Most owner-managed London companies qualify as micro-entities or small companies, so accounts can be prepared under FRS 105 or FRS 102 Section 1A. From the accounting periods affected by the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act, small and micro companies must file a profit and loss account with Companies House, so the presentation choice matters more than it used to.
