Short answer

An income certification letter is a short signed statement confirming your income for a stated period, cross-checked against filed accounts, CT600s or self assessment returns. We provide these where the figures are supported by records we have prepared or reviewed.

What is normally included

The letter usually states your name and company, the period covered, the source of income (salary, dividends, self-employment profit or a combination), the figures for that period, and confirmation that they reconcile to the accounts and tax returns filed with HMRC and Companies House.

It is dated, addressed to the specific recipient or purpose named, and signed by a qualified accountant at the firm. We do not issue open, undated letters with no stated recipient, because that invites misuse and most requesters specify wording they need anyway.

Where it fits and where it does not

These letters are commonly requested by landlords, letting agents, lenders and, occasionally, other third parties needing confirmation of self-employed or director income where a standard payslip does not exist.

We can only certify income that is evidenced in filed returns or accounts. If the request needs an opinion on future income, that is a projection, not a certification, and is dealt with as a separate, clearly labelled piece of work.

Rates, thresholds and deadlines quoted here reflect the 2026/27 UK position and current Companies House and HMRC guidance. Check GOV.UK, or ask us, before relying on them for your own company.
