Limited company accounts cost: what should you pay?

A simple annual accounts and CT600 service can cost about £500 to £900 plus VAT in the wider UK market. Ongoing packages for a small trading company commonly run from about £45.83 to £75.00 plus VAT per month, with more comprehensive finance support costing more.

For year end work, confirm statutory accounts, CT600, tax computation, Companies House submission, HMRC submission and a director review. Monthly packages may also include bookkeeping, payroll, VAT returns, confirmation statements, software and routine advice.

Ask whether director Self Assessment, company formation, registered office, catch-up bookkeeping, mortgage references, R&D work and HMRC enquiries cost extra.

Transaction volume, messy records, multiple bank or marketplace accounts, foreign currency, stock, VAT complexity, payroll headcount, property, group companies and overdue filings all add work and judgement.

Good cloud bookkeeping can reduce the cost because the accountant reviews a reconciled ledger instead of rebuilding one. Platform sellers should record gross sales, fees and refunds separately rather than treating net payouts as turnover.

Annual-only work can suit a dormant or very simple company whose director handles clean bookkeeping. A monthly package is more useful where directors need salary and dividend planning, VAT, payroll, tax reserves and answers before decisions are made.

The cheapest year-end filing can become expensive when corrections, late deadlines or excluded advice are billed separately.

Request a written scope, exclusions, software terms, response standard, professional body membership, handover terms and the price for work outside scope. Confirm whether the quoted amount includes VAT.
