Dormant means no significant accounting transactions during the period, but the company still legally exists and Companies House still requires accounts and a confirmation statement every year, or penalties and eventually strike-off action can follow.
The work is limited to confirming nothing has happened, preparing the very short dormant accounts format, and submitting the filings on time, which is why the cost is far lower than for an active trading company.
As soon as the company starts trading, receives income, pays a director or otherwise has accounting transactions, it stops being dormant and needs to move onto one of our standard packages, with corporation tax obligations following from the date trading begins.
If you are holding a company dormant while deciding whether to trade through it, tell us as soon as that changes so accounts, VAT registration and payroll are set up before the first transaction rather than after.
